Enjoy our annual Happy Holidays with the Mighty Wurlitzer concert on December 10, 2021 at 10:30 am and 7:00 pm live in the Ballroom. Jelani Eddington will be at the keyboard and Evans Mirageas, the Harry T. Wilks artistic director for the Cincinnati Opera will host. Guests include:

  • vocal performances by soprano Victoria Okafor and tenor Avery Bargasse
  • dancers from the Otto M. Budig Cincinnati Ballet Academy perform original choreography arranged to jazz arrangements of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” by Duke Ellington
  • the sounds of Kenny Smith’s Peace & Serenity Choir

This year’s joyous concert takes on an added dimension of community engagement with the reveal of commissioned artwork by renowned artist Annie Ruth, “Sisters of Legacy,” a large, original piece of mixed-media art inspired by historic Black performance in Music Hall. According to Ruth, “the work would focus on Music Hall as the central element and highlight African American performers and imagery including Mamie Smith, Leontyne Price and Marian Anderson.”

Holly Brians Ragusa, Wurlitzer chair for Friends of Music Hall, recognizing the value of bridging community through art, proposed the concept to Annie Ruth. Brians Ragusa then connected Tarita Preston and Chris Powell, Cincinnati based entrepreneurs and art collectors to the project. Their generosity has made this tribute possible for the Friends of Music Hall to more fully engage the community and provide further education around this historic landmark.

Annie Ruth is an internationally respected visual artist, author and arts educator. This trailblazing artist has frequently collaborated with major cultural institutions and museums to bring art directly to the community.

Join us as we elebrate the joy and peace of the season at historic Cincinnati Music Hall! The entire family will enjoy the sounds of the season, the Wurlitzer's jingling bells and favorite old and new melodies.
